Linen Spray | A Recipe

I am a total sucker for a good linen spray. I use it when we change the sheets, giving the mattress, pillows and duvet a good spritz before putting fresh bedding on. It’s also ideal for sprucing up rugs and furniture that can’t easily be washed. I really love The White Company’s Perfect Linen spray but at £15 (£15!) per bottle it’s an almost ridiculous extravagance that I certainly can’t justify very often.

Browsing through Pinterest I’d come across various DIY recipes and figured it was worth a try. I used lavender essential oil for mine but you could use whichever oils you liked, just make sure they are safe to use on clothes and won’t cause any irritation to your skin or damage to the fabric.

It’s a really easy process and you only need three ingredients; water, vodka or witch hazel and essential oil. You’ll also need a spray bottle and a jam jar.

Recipe as follows {adjust to your sized container}:

  • 1 part vodka or witch hazel
  • 3 parts cold water
  • 20-30 drops of essential oil {depending on the strength you’re looking for}

Blend the vodka or witch hazel together in a jam jar before adding to the water to reduce separation. If the mixture does sit for a while the oil may float to the top so I tend to just give it a shake before using. I also added some fresh sprigs of lavender but they’re not necessary.

Happy spritzing!
